Santa Monica Cosmetic Dentist Helps You Assess Porcelain Veneers and Composite Dental Bonding As Individual Treatments

Written by Dr. Follette on Jan 17, 2017

Cosmetic patients have a range of treatment options available to them, and it can sometimes be daunting to figure out exactly which aesthetic solution is perfect for you. Our Santa Monica cosmetic dentists are here to help you make these important decisions; today we’re getting started by comparing porcelain veneers and dental bonding treatment. Because these treatments can achieve many of the same visual results, it’s good to know what differentiates them.

1. Material

Veneers are individual cosmetic restorations that are crafted from porcelain. Dental bonding, on the other hand, involves bonding composite resin to your natural enamel. Both porcelain and composite resin can be customized in shape, size, and color to look natural for you.

2. Treatment Process

The entire dental bonding process can generally be completed in just one day. Veneers need to be crafted and then fit and attached over a period of two to three dentist visits.

3. Wear

Both veneers and dental bonding are permanent once applied. In general, porcelain is slightly stronger than composite resin. Keep in mind that if your dental veneer becomes damaged it will need to be replaced, while dental bonding can be repaired by our dental team. No matter which cosmetic treatment you choose, you will still be able to eat and drink your favorite things—both veneers and bonding help you jump back in to your regular routine!

4. Cost

Dental bonding is considerably less expensive than porcelain dental veneers. The exact cost of your treatment will depend on your smile and your dental needs, but in general bonding can be half to one third of the cost of receiving a porcelain veneer.

Our Santa Monica cosmetic dentists are here to help you assess all of your treatment options, and, ultimately, choose a dental solution that meets all of your needs. Give us a call to schedule a consultation with our helpful team!
