Resolve to Have a Healthier Smile in 2020! The Santa Monica Family Dentist Explains How

Written by Dr. Follette on Jan 14, 2020

We all come into the new year with the best possible intentions. But then life happens, and by a few weeks into the new year we have already slipped up on at least a few of our new goals.

Well, our Santa Monica dentist is here to help you make your dental dreams, at least, a reality. This could be your smile’s best year yet! How can you do it?

Schedule your dental cleanings now

Regularly scheduled professional cleanings are necessary to clear away plaque and tartar, stay on top of oral health problems, and treat bad breath. The American Dental Association recommends that you complete a cleaning every six months. Take the time to get these on the calendar now, so that you don’t forget when life gets busy.

Replace your old dental tools

Now is the perfect time to swap your old, worn down toothbrush for a new one. Many people are surprised to learn that they should be using a new brush every three to four months! As your brush gets older the bristles wear down and become less effective.

Recommit to flossing

Flossing is an integral part of a healthy oral hygiene routine, but it is also one of the first steps to fall by the wayside when we start to get busy. Reestablish your routine of flossing every night as you clean your smile before bed.

Rinse regularly

Drinking more water is a common goal for many people as they enter the new year. This is great! Our dental team would add to that rinsing your mouth with water after eating and after drinking something sugary or acidic. Not only does this clear away dental debris, it also simultaneously prompts saliva production.

Take advantage of the momentum as we move into the new year. Our Santa Monica dentists are here if you have any additional questions!
