Santa Monica Dentist Talks About Important Discussions To Have With Your Dental Team

Written by Dr. Follette on Aug 16, 2022

Maintaining open and honest communication with your dental team will help you get the personalized care you need, precisely when you need it. Today, our Santa Monica dentists are discussing some important topics you may want to cover with your dentist the next time you see them. Keep reading to learn more…

Toothbrush Bristles

Using the correct type of toothbrush for you is imperative to maintaining a healthy and strong smile. As you may have already noticed, toothbrush bristles vary greatly. You’ll find bristles that are labelled “soft,” “medium,” “firm,” and even “extra firm.” Check with your dental team about the type of bristle you should be using! The goal is to clean your smile without creating unnecessary abrasions or enamel thinning.

Semi-annual Appointments

You should also collaborate with your dentist to set an appropriate schedule for your preventive cleanings and oral health assessments. The American Dental Association’s general recommendation is for patients to see their dentists every six months or so. However, there are a number of factors—including health conditions and plaque levels—that may necessitate more frequent appointments. The good news is that your dentist will be able to help you tailor your preventive appointment schedule to meet your needs.

Bruxism

We also encourage you to talk to your dental team about the possibility of bruxism treatment if you find that you are grinding or clenching your teeth. Some common indicators of bruxism include jaw pain, headaches, tooth pain, and sleep disturbances. Remember that bruxism is most easily treated in its earliest stages, so don’t wait to mention any concerns you have to your dentist.

So, what do you think? Do you have any particular subjects you’d like to cover during your next dental appointment? If so, our Santa Monica dentists are here to help. Give us a call to schedule a personal consultation!
